Kitchen Remodel Creates a Brighter, More Efficient Space Without Changing the Layout

Not every kitchen remodel requires removing walls or completely reimagining the floorplan. In many cases, the biggest transformation comes from making the existing space work smarter.
That was exactly the goal for this recent kitchen remodel designed by Capitol Kitchen & Bath. Rather than changing the overall layout, our team focused on improving efficiency, creating a more cohesive design, and selecting timeless finishes that would make the kitchen feel brighter, larger, and more welcoming.
The result proves that thoughtful design can completely change how a kitchen feels without increasing its footprint.
A Kitchen Remodel That Feels Larger Through Better Design
One of the homeowner's primary goals was to create a kitchen that functioned more efficiently while maintaining the familiar layout. Instead of making major structural changes, we looked for opportunities to improve the flow and eliminate visual distractions.

One of the most noticeable improvements was redesigning the refrigerator wall. Previously, the cabinetry left an awkward open space that made the kitchen feel unfinished. By extending the cabinetry and creating a continuous built-in appearance, the entire room immediately feels more balanced and intentional.
This is a great example of how custom cabinetry can transform an existing kitchen without changing its size.
Small Changes That Made a Big Difference
Thoughtful design often comes down to solving everyday frustrations.
Moving the microwave from above the range into the cabinetry created a cleaner cooking area while improving accessibility and opening up the space around the range. Although the adjustment was relatively simple, it contributed to a kitchen that feels more organized and easier to use.
By focusing on efficiency instead of expansion, every design decision helped the kitchen feel larger, brighter, and more functional.
Dura Supreme Cabinetry Creates a Timeless Foundation
The foundation of this remodel is custom Dura Supreme cabinetry, crafted in the Marley Panel Plus door style with a Dove painted maple finish. The light cabinetry reflects natural light throughout the room, contributing to the bright, open feeling the homeowners wanted to achieve.

Brushed Oil Rubbed Bronze hardware from Hardware Resources' Mirada Collection introduces warmth and contrast while complementing the soft cabinet finish. The completed design demonstrates that custom cabinetry isn't simply about storage. When thoughtfully planned, it creates visual continuity that makes the entire kitchen feel more cohesive.
Finishes That Blend Beauty and Performance
Every finish was selected to support both everyday living and timeless style.
Parisien Bleu Polished Quartz by Silestone adds subtle movement and elegance to the countertops while providing the durability homeowners expect from a hardworking kitchen.
The workspace is completed with an Elkay Luxe Collection quartz undermount sink featuring double 60/40 bowls with a low divide. Paired with a Delta Renaldi faucet with Touch Technology in a Venetian Bronze finish, the sink area combines convenience with sophisticated design.
Together, these selections create a kitchen that is as functional as it is beautiful.
You Don't Always Need More Space
One of the biggest misconceptions in kitchen remodeling is that creating a better kitchen requires making it bigger.
In reality, thoughtful design can often have a greater impact than additional square footage. Strategic cabinetry, improved organization, and carefully considered finishes can completely transform how a kitchen looks, feels, and functions.

This project is a perfect example of refining an existing layout instead of rebuilding it. Here at Capitol Kitchen & Bath, we created a kitchen that feels brighter, more spacious, and custom designed for the homeowner's lifestyle.
What the Homeowner Had to Say
The homeowner shared this after the project was complete:
"Working with Angie at Capital Group was great! She came up with a plan to get us started and then was open to changes and tweaks as we went. The contractor she recommended, Jake Sponsler Construction, was fantastic too. Love the cabinets we purchased from Capital Group. Quality is excellent and very well built. Very satisfied with finished product."
